Wire-wound silicone rubber heating elements
Surface heaters are ideal for many industrial purposes where precise heating is required. Lund & Sorensen makes heating elements from silicone rubber, which is particularly well suited for this purpose because of its high temperature tolerance and superior electrical insulating properties.
Heating mats are produced by laminating the evenly spaced resistance wires between two sheets of silicone rubber, reinforced with fibreglass for greater mechanical strength.
Fine resistance wires are accurately positioned over areas of almost any shape or size. The close, even spacing of these wires ensures a uniform distribution of heat over the entire working area.
The maximum continuous operating temperature for a silicone rubber heater mat is 200°C, although 230°C is still within the safety margin for short periods.
As silicone rubber heating mats are both thin and light, they have a low thermal mass and therefore heat up rapidly and respond quickly to temperature control inputs.
Heater mats can be manufactured in almost any size and shape to suit their specific function. This makes it possible to include holes and cut-outs without affecting the even distribution of heat.
A range of built-in temperature limiters and sensors is also available to suit specific instrumentation.
Surface heaters are available with a self-adhesive backing to allow for easy positioning and assembly. These heaters can also be manufactured with eyelets, straps, hooks or velcro as additional attachment options.
